What is the Five Girl Powers Project?

Power isn’t a dirty word, but most girls grow up without a way to talk about it. The Five Girl Powers Project is dedicated to sparking conversations about power so that no girl discovers her power by accident. By creating intergenerational communities to address this gap, we build momentum for social progress, a chance at living in a world in which no girl is limited by her circumstances.

The Powers - Power Circle, Power Source, Power House, Power Surge and Power Play - are a retooled vocabulary and skill set for how to explore and demystify how power plays out in the context of a girl’s life. 

5GP honors an expansive idea of gender. Our community is for all people but centers young people that personally identify as girls. This includes cis*, trans* genderqueer, and gender non-conforming youth.

We offer an off-the-shelf, video/written curriculum for discussing these powers through our Five Girl Powers (5GP) E-course, which is now available for purchase.  This E-course uses a multi-week, video and written format to work on power with a small group of girls, age middle school and up.  You can also explore our website for a collection of suggested activities, books, movies and resources to help parents, teachers and adult allies develop conversations with girls about power.
